Hangeng’s appointment in Guangzhou Children’s Palace was initially scheduled to start at 11am, but he was nowhere to be seen. Amongst the public’s anticipation, he arrived at 11.30am, wearing a set of grey suit, still as handsome despite coming late. Because of confidentiality, there were not many fans on the location.
During the appointment ceremony, Hangeng received from the minister of the Asian Games Organizing Committee, Mr Huanqing Wang, the “2010 Guangzhou Asian Games Volunteer Hall of Fame letter of appointment” and “2010 Guangzhou Asian Games Volunteer Registration Certificate”, officially becoming a member of the Asian Games Volunteer Hall of Fame. Then, he also wrote his benediction for the Asian Games on the Asian Games Volunteer celebrity board “Cheers for the Asian Games Volunteers”, and then making his handprint for the Asian Games Volunteer Hall of Fame. He also specially gave the Asian Games Organizing Committee Volunteer Department his autographed photo as a souvenir.
For this trip to Guangzhou, other than participating in this event, Hangeng will be filming videos and giving out posters, making his first step as a volunteer for the Asian Games.
Since the crisis started because of his contract termination, Hangeng secluded himself, only attending a few events occasionally. This time, he accepted the invitation to become a volunteer for the Guangzhou Asian Games from the Organizing Committee. The organizational unit stated, because of Hangeng’s high popularity but limited security, they decided to keep the event confidential, because they do not want to cause too much of a stir among the fans. Nevertheless, there were representatives of the fans on the location who gave Hangeng cakes, notebooks, the Asian Games’ mascot LeYangYang, and other presents. However, Hangeng’s managers rejected all requests for interviews from journalists, just like when he accepted his award in the Billboard music, not saying much to the media. But, he gave a short speech in the appointment ceremony.
“I hope I can rely on what I have to invite more friends to participate as volunteers for the Asian Games. Everyone, let’s work hard together to make the Asian Games even better”. It is understood that since the establishment of “Guangzhou Asian Games Volunteer Hall of Fame”, it has attracted more than 100 celebrities. This time, Hangeng’s popularity and power as a role model will certainly, attract more young fans to participate as volunteers for the Asian Games.
