Why didn’t JOO debut as a girl group member?

Ballad diva JOO finally made her official comeback this week with the mini-album, “Heartmade“, after a two-year hiatus from the industry. She’s been making the interview rounds, and in a recent session with Osen, she was asked why she wasn’t a girl group member.

Joo laughed, “I was curious about that as well. I never thought I’d have a solo career.”

She continued, “If I were to be put in a group, time-wise, I would’ve been with either the Wonder Girls or miss A. But I think people believe that my charms stand out more when I’m standing on my own, as opposed to being with others. Being alone as a soloist means more responsibilities, and it was a lot of pressure, which is why I studied and trained in music even harder over the past two years. Perhaps they thought my voice was better suited to ballads than dance tracks.”

When asked whether she received any opportunities to debut as a girl group member during her two years of training, she answered, “I returned to being a trainee under the condition that I’d release an album upon my return, so there were no plans to become a group member.”
